Our story begins in 1992, when Mike Miller, who introduced near-net forgings to the medical industry, combined his experience in exotic alloy manufacturing with his love of automobile racing and formed Stealth Technologies. With just 5 employees, Stealth quickly established itself as a key supplier of high-performance auto parts to some of the top racing teams and engine parts distributors in the country. At the same time the groundwork was being laid to enter the business of supplying complex net-shape forgings to the orthopedic implant industry.
During this initial period, Mike Miller was invited by one of the major orthopedic implant supply companies to serve on a planning committee to explore the possibility of using near-net shape forging technology to replace the gross forging technology then used in the manufacture of implants.
Almost immediately, Stealth became a major supplier in the implant forging business, with medical revenues quickly surpassing automotive. The intervening years have been marked by several noteworthy events:
• 1998 - ISO 9000 certification awarded to Stealth for its quality management system.
• 2001 - Stealth aquires Hy-Vac Medical Technologies in Collierville, Tennessee, a company that specializes in the porous coating of orthopedic implants.
• 2003 - Stealth aquires the Biomaterials Division of Astro Met, Inc. Merged with Stealth's Coating Division, this aquisition further enhances our position as a leader in orthopedic porous coating.
• 2007 - Orchid Stealth Orthopedic Solutions becomes certified to ISO 13485:2003, the international standard recognized for medical device Quality Management Systems registration.
Orchid Stealth currently employs approximately 160 people at its Holt and Memphis locations. As part of Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, LLC, Orchid Stealth is is poised to further strengthen its position as a world-leader in the forging of orthopedic implants.
